Governor Mutahi Kahiga has been called by a Nyeri court to appear in the ongoing inquiry into the death of his predecessor Wahome Gakuru.
Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, as well as county-secretary Benjamin Gachichio and Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, and investigating officer Edward Nyambuto, will appear before the inquest.
Following an application by lawyer Martha Weru, representing Dhamana Afrika, a Gakuru-affiliated NGO, Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo summoned Gachagua. The MP has been designated as a person of interest by the NGO.
Dr. Gakuru ordered a financial audit, which Kahiga and other top government officials are anticipated to testify about before his death in an accident on the Thika-Kenol highway on November 7, 2017.
The governor’s official Mercedes Benz collided with the railing, destroying 16 concrete posts before coming to a halt 48 meters away. Dr. Gakuru died at Thika Level Five Hospital after being brutally wounded by the guardrail.
