OMANYALA CLINCHES FIRST POSITION IN 100M-RACE AT MONACO DIAMOND LEAGUE
The fastest man in Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala, made history after becoming the first Kenyan to win the 100 metres race during the Monaco Diamond League on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Omanyala clocked 9.92 seconds, while Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo came second in 9.93 seconds. Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake finished third in 10.00 seconds.
The Africa 100m champion had a shaky start but recovered well to beat the youngster from Botswana. He also defeated his idol, Yohan Blake, who finished fourth after 10.01 seconds.
In what seems like a slow but steady improvement for Omanyala, the champion has improved on his record after finishing third at the Rabat Diamond League before back-to-back second-place finishes in Florence and Paris.
With this win, the Kenyan Champion now reclaims the top spot, tied with Simbine, who beat the World Champion Fred Kerley in Silesia last week. Kerley drops to third. Omanyala has now guaranteed his place in the Diamond League finals in Oregon in September.
