Mackenzie, followers becry detention without trial
Kilifi cult leader Paul Mackenzie and his accomplices staged a massive protest atbthe Shanzu law courts to becry their continued detention without trial.
The defendants started the protest after realising that the state was planning to make another application to keep them in custody for another 47 days.
Mackenzie and his supporters valiantly chanted “haki yetu,” briefly distrupting the court proceedings.
Their Lawyer, Mr. Wycliffe Mwakatembo, has to intervene and reassure them that the court would protect their rights.
“For the respect of the court and for me as your lawyer, I plead with you that you calm down and let the court deal with your complaint. Please sit down,” Mr. Mwakasembo told his clients.
Mr. Mwakasembo lawyer told the court that his clients were being forced to wear prison costumes while in custody among other complaints.
The Lawyer wants to court to stop any government official from threatening his clients since they have not been charged with any crime.
