Disturbing reports from Embu Level 5 Hospital, specifically regarding severe issues within the newborn unit.

The situation has been described as “traumatizing” with grave concerns raised over the conditions in which newborns are being cared for.

Sources from within the hospital indicate that the newborn unit is critically overwhelmed.

Relatives of patients are reporting that newborns in incubators are facing dire conditions and there is an urgent need for intervention and support.

“I have a relative admitted there. From yesterday they are sharing beds in the newborn unit. The situation is unbearable and extremely distressing for the families involved” a source shared with us on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Efforts to obtain photographs to document the situation were met with resistance due to hospital regulations.

Notable figures within the community are also voicing their concerns.

“This week, I will be visiting Embu General Hospital’s maternity wing. I have received details about the deplorable conditions at Embu Level 5 maternity. It’s quite unfortunate, and I extend my condolences to all the affected mothers. We are trying to reach out to the officials. In the meantime, anyone near the hospital, please assist in facilitating the transfer of mothers and their newborns to nearby hospitals,” Esther Mukami Mwaniki, a popuar figure in Embu County recently posted on Facebook.
