After pleading guilty to stealing her employer’s money and giving it to a bogus street pastor, a home assistant was sentenced to prison. At Lavington in Dagoreti, Nairobi county, Faith Ondisa was accused of stealing Sh456,000 from Mary Mwatika. “He (the pastor) assured me that he was aware of my difficulties. He then urged me to stretch my palm and smear it with saliva before telling me there was money in my boss’s residence “The court was informed by Ondisa.
On Tuesday, she pled guilty to the allegations before Kibera magistrate William Tulel, but said she was brainwashed by conmen along the popular Ngong Road. The cash was carried in a luggage, according to prosecutor Ann Wanjiku. Wanjiku added, “She then lied to the guards, saying she was bringing the bag for repair.” According to the prosecution, the complainant realized something was wrong after interrogating several of the guards at the entrance, who informed her that the accused had left the compound with a suitcase.
Wanjiku further said that the accused individual immediately turned off her phone and switched to a new line. “She discovered that her money was missing when she checked it. “She attempted to contact the accused, but her phone had been turned off,” the prosecution added. The complainant decided to contact the police, and the culprit was traced down and detained using a new phone number.
