At Kibera law courts, a suspected boda boda thug was charged with robbery with violence after reportedly stealing Sh4 million from a casino employee at gunpoint. Abdulahi Erono is accused of robbing Samson Nzuka Mweke of Sh67, 000 in cash and mobile phones on January 11 in Lavington, Nairobi, with the help of others armed with firearms. He is also accused of stealing Mweke’s driver, Belinda Adongo, of her cellphone and Sh1,500 in cash, totaling Sh36,500. Erono is accused of conducting the crime with others who are still at large.
Mweke had taken the money from a Hurlingham bank before they were attacked around 300 meters away. A motorcycle rider stopped them before two more motorcycles drove up alongside them. Mweke and his driver were approached by two young males who alighted from their motorcycle and pointed a gun at them. They trashed the car and robbed Mweke of the cash bag before forcing the occupants to hand over their phones.
After being apprehended by officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Dangoretti offices in connection with another alleged robbery in which the victim was slain, the suspect was positively identified by the two complainants. Before senior principle magistrate Derrick Kutto, Erono rejected the charges. After corporal Joseph Nguni of the Dangoretti DCI offices acquired detention orders to detain Erono pending investigations, he was held at Mathangari police station until April 19.
