The Embakasi East member of parliament Babu Owino has threatened a senior journalist for being responsible for ‘negative’ news accorded to the opposition leader Hon Raila Odinga.
The journalist on his Twitter handle page terms the call as being ‘nasty’. In an interview the journalist said, “we have had an exchange of words last night (Monday). He spoke very nasty things to me and even after I ended the phone call he sent me text messages and WhatsApp texts which I have shared on social media. For now that is all I can say.”
On the Twitter handle he wrote,”I just received a very nasty call from a person who introduced himself as Hon Babu Owino on +25411111311. This has to do with the work I do. It is not good manners to try scare lowly journalists. Tunaomba tufanye kazi kwa amani.” Guess what, Babelu Owino is not even scared despite the guy raising an alarm on social media. He tweeted back to him.
The media industry is really faced with troubles after troubles. The other day the hustler nation shared their bitterness claiming that some news that was aired in Citizen TV were ‘negative’ about the deputy president’s visit to Meru county.
The Kenya Union of Journalist(KUJ) secretary Erick Oduor has come out strongly to condemn the acts and asked politicians to desist from such behaviors and respect the journalists. This is really raising an alarm amidst the 2022 general elections which is fast approaching. The secretary confirmed that such behaviors are always rampant with politicians during the electioneering period.
