It’s sad that the top leadership in the police service headed by Interior CS Matiangi has settled on banning marriages and dating among police officers.
It’s like banning cows from drinking water just because one or two cows drowned in the same water.
I do believe it is the fundamental right of a person to marry a person of their choice despite their occupation.
In the case of police officers who unfortunately man deadly weapons, I believe the solution lies in the head. I expected police officers would be subjected to mandatory guidance and counseling sessions to avoid such mental issues arriving from love triangles among the police.
This should be accompanied by paid leave for such cases of police officers identified to be in bad shape.
So far the directive by Matiangi doesn’t hold water since intimacy is one thing and occupation is another.
I will not be surprised to hear that human rights organizations have run to court to overturn the move. Anyway, let us be on the radar as things unfold for our hot-blood police officers who find solace in two obvious things, money or s*x. Come on we all know how straining a police officer’s job can be.
