Bus loses control and veers into oncoming traffic along Thika road in Pangani.

On Monday, a city shuttle bus lost control and drifted into oncoming traffic along the Thika road in Pangani, colliding with a private vehicle. This early-morning collision caused a massive traffic jam on the highway, and police arrived just in time to try to calm things down and remove the bus from the path it had blocked. It’s not yet known whether there are injuries or deaths from the accident but more information about this is expected soon.

This comes only days after a bus carrying passengers flipped after colliding with a lorry on the Thika Superhighway in Ndarugo on Monday, March 21. The Super Metro SACCO bus was headed to Nairobi before colliding with the lorry, according to Juja sub-county traffic police commander George Muriithi. He stated that inquiries into the disaster had begun, but that the cause of the incident had yet to be determined.
The amount of the damage wreaked on both vehicles as the lorry drove into a ditch was captured on video and shared online. Witnesses and passers-by were seen rushing to the scene in an attempt to save the trapped passengers. For a moment, the accident disrupted traffic flow as people lingered about the area to get a better look at what was going on. According to the most recent data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 3,212 people perished in road accidents between January and September 2021. This represents a 652 percent increase in accidents over the same period in 2020, when 2,560 fatalities were recorded.
