The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detained achariah Nyaora Obadia, the accused mastermind of the Forest Road tragedy, as he attempted to unlawfully cross the border into Tanzania. Until his capture a few minutes ago, the suspect was playing hide and seek with detectives, according to the DCI. The suspect was flown to Nairobi, according to DCI’s official Facebook page. Detectives investigating the incident named Nyaore as the key suspect on Tuesday last week.
“This comes after undercover agents from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters focused down on the suspect, Zachariah Nyaora Obadia,” the DCI said. Detectives claim they proceeded to the Mukuru Kaiyaba slums to look for the suspect in an attempt to apprehend him. “However, the suspect who is aware of the recent crackdown on rogue Boda Boda riders eluded our dragnet by a hair’s breadth, slipping through a sewer conduit in the densely populated community,” DCI continued.
After a video of a young woman being harassed by a throng of Boda Boda riders went viral, Kenyans flocked to social media to voice their outrage. In connection with the attack on the motorist, sixteen individuals were arrested and five motorcycles were seized. “Operations are still ongoing as we seek additional information from the public,” police say. “A viral video clip of a female motorist being assaulted by suspected Boda Boda riders along Wangari Maathai /Forest Road has horrified and appalled me. Interior CS Fred Matiang’I remarked, “We must defend our roadways from such despicable and reprehensible acts of attack.”
