Deputy President William Ruto and his allies have vowed to shoot down the recently proposed Finance Bill by Treasury CS Ukur Yatani.

Deputy President William Ruto and his allies have vowed to defeat Treasury CS Ukur Yatani’s recently proposed Finance Bill. Wheat, cassava flour, and maize will be subject to a 16 percent VAT under the Finance Bill. Additionally, if lawmakers approve the Bill into law, the flourishing boda boda business, which has been a source of income for millions of young people, will be shaken.

A unit of an imported motorcycle will be subject to an excise charge of Sh13,403.64, up from the existing rate of Sh12,186, under the proposed revisions. Ruto and his allies attacked the Finance Bill at a Kenya Kwanza rally in Kiambu County on Sunday, saying it does not reflect the economic situation of the average Kenyan, especially at a time when basic commodity prices have skyrocketed.
They promised to vote nay on the bill if it reached the House floor, and residents rallied to support their bottom-up economic model by voting for UDA candidates. “Some products like water, bread, and flour will go up in the recently read budget,” Ruto said, “but we want to say that the law will be shot down in parliament. “If the bill still goes through in parliament, we will alter it three months later to make it more accessible to Kenyans,” he promised.
