DP William Ruto hits back at President Uhuru Kenyatta for accusing him of planning to overthrow the government.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s deputy, William Ruto, has disputed allegations that he intended to impeach him. On Saturday, when meeting with over 3,000 elders and elected leaders from Mount Kenya who support him at State House in Nairobi, President Kenyatta is believed to have voiced fear that the DP was going to impeach him, forcing him to seek a handshake with his former opponent, Raila Odinga. Dr Ruto came out swinging, claiming that Mr Odinga—who he claimed swore himself in as the people’s President in violation of the Constitution—had devised and carried out a conspiracy to destabilize the democratically elected Jubilee government.

“I am not an idiot, a drinker, or a lunatic who helps form a government and then plots to destabilize it. As Deputy President, I understand what I must do, and I will never, have never, and will never do anything to bring our administration down. Shame on those who promote the propaganda! Shame! In a rally in Malindi Town, Kilifi County, the DP remarked, “You deserve nothing but shame.” “I’d want to ask our friends to show respect for those of us who campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta and helped him win the presidency. You don’t have any plans. Please don’t go to that depth now that your project has been turned down.”
According to the DP, Mr Odinga should be held responsible for the accusations leveled against him. “The person who has been accused of violating the Kenyan Constitution has been identified. In 1982, he declared his intention to topple the government, and he just swore himself in as President to do it. Dr Ruto added, “You may be mistaking me with your project,” referring to his team’s designation of Mr Odinga as a State project after President Kenyatta’s support.
