DP William Ruto , Tracy Wanjiru present their papers to UDA for verification

On Saturday, Deputy President William Ruto and Tracy Wanjiru came before the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for nomination interviews to evaluate their eligibility to run for president under the party’s banner. In footage obtained by Citizen Digital, DP Ruto approached the Hustlers Plaza with a jaunty stroll to show his documents for verification before party authorities. Wanjiru, a 23-year-old Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Bio-Engineering, trailed him closely.

Original national identification cards, proof of nomination fee payment, and original copies of academic certificates were also required of the candidates. An updated CV and a soft copy of a colored passport are also required for the interview. “I begged them to take me into consideration, but I suppose it will have to be an objective evaluation of all the individuals that apply.” The NEC will make a decision and inform us either before or at the NDC, which I was told will take place on Tuesday. “Wish me luck,” the DP added.

The National Election Board will question presidential candidates about why they are running and what they plan to do for the country if they win. “We will do background checks on the candidates for the presidency.
