Ambitious Meru woman Edith Mwirigi, a member of the United Democratic Alliance, has withdrawn from the party’s primaries, citing unfairness and extortion as reasons. After the party refused to consult her in the selection of clerks, Mwirigi stated she has no trust in Thursday’s primaries.
“We will not submit our supporters to a rigged process with predetermined outcomes set and defined by a small group of people.” Mwirigi predicted that the UDA party will face difficulties as a result of the primaries, but she remained calm and optimistic owing to the guarantee of fair and free nominations. “The stage has been set for the people’s will to be shortchanged by influencing who becomes clerks to administer the nominations. In the end, the clerks will decide who receives nominations.”
