Governor Waiguru mistakenly calls DP Ruto, ‘leader of Azimio’ (+VIDEO)

Governor Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga found herself in a sticky situation on Tuesday after openly referring to Deputy President William Ruto as the leader of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, which is led by Raila Odinga’s political adversary. Waiguru’s apparent slip of the tongue occurred at the Ngong Race Course in Nairobi at the signing of a coalition agreement by nine political parties under the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Waiguru unintentionally addressed the DP as the head of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance led by Odinga while acknowledging the presence of Kenya Kwanza flagbearer Deputy President William Ruto at the occasion. After hearing critical comments from the audience, the Kirinyaga Governor suddenly realized she had made a mistake and quickly apologized.
Waiguru apologized, “Oh my goodness, my heartfelt apologies.”
Waiguru went on to add that she made the error only because she had planned to criticize the Odinga-led faction beforehand. “I was considering what I’d say about them,” she said. The Governor became a trending topic on Twitter after a video of him making an extraordinary gaffe went viral.

Chama Cha Kazi, the Communist Party of Kenya, Devolution Party, Economic Freedom Party, Farmers Party, The Service Party, Tujibebe Wakenya Party, and Umoja Maendeleo Party are among the nine parties that have joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
