The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is poised to probe remarks made by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, which appeared to insinuate that votes were rigged in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Chairman Wafula Chebukati made the announcement during CEO Marjan Hussein’s inauguration on Wednesday. “We know what he said, but people always have different interpretations of what they said. So, before we summon him, our investigation team is looking into it “Chebukati stated the following.
The Gatundu South MP said that he and other political figures helped Uhuru win during the DP William Ruto National Delegates Convention. Kuria alleged that together with others who are now allied to DP Ruto’s camp rigged the election in Uhuru’s favor. “Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura,” Kuria stated.
Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe requested that Kuria be investigated for his rigging remarks on Tuesday night. He claimed that the President ran a well-choreographed campaign that saw them win the election fairly, and that the charges of vote manipulation are something they are unaware of. MP Moses Kuria has also stated that he will not join President Kenyatta’s and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja Movement.
