Investigations have been heightened at Isiolo’s Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp after the abrupt disappearance of beers and beer stock cash worth Ksh6.9 million.

The abrupt disappearance of beers and beer stock currency worth Ksh6.9 million has heightened investigations at Isiolo’s Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp. The money was allegedly lost over time owing to a hacking of the Electronic Business Suite system at the 78 Tank Battalion and School of Artillery canteen in Isiolo (SOA).

An audit of the finances conducted by two civilian staff members who worked at the canteen raised the alert. The loss is said to have occurred on numerous dates between January 2021 and January 25, 2022.The two staffers, identified as Peterson Kariuki Mbita and Boniface Kimathi Kinyua, have since been arrested in relation to the disappearance of the alcohol.
The two were apprehended on Tuesday, January 25, and are being held in the Isiolo Police Station pending the outcome of the investigation. Kariuki is accused of stealing Ksh6.6 million, while his accomplice, Kinyua, is suspected of stealing Ksh301,00 in stock and stock cash work.
“Preliminary audit report indicated that Kariuki was responsible for loss of Ksh6,637,953 while Kimathi could not account for Ksh301,259 in form of physical stock and stock cash,” read a court document as per Nation. The two were detained in police custody after they were deemed a flight risk by Corporal Joseph Kibet, the investigating officer.
“The auditors must conduct a thorough examination of the audit records in order to prove the entire amount of cash stolen decisively,” Kibet asserted. The two, who face a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison, are the latest citizens to commit a crime within a heavily secured facility.
