Jackson Kiprotich Kibor, a wealthybusinessman-cum-politician from Eldoret, is dead

Jackson Kibor, a prominent Eldoret businessman, has died. According to his family, Kibor, who was known as the chairman of the ‘Men’s Conference’ due to his contentious marriage life, died on Wednesday night while having treatment at St Luke’s Hospital in Eldoret. Kibor was a wealthy businessman who possessed approximately 4,000 acres of land and other assets in Eldoret and the Rift Valley as a whole. His tumultuous marriage life and acrimonious divorce battles made him famous, especially when he was in his 70s or 80s.

Kibor earned the nickname Chairman of the Men’s Conference after divorcing his 50-year-old wife Josephine Jepkoech. Since then, his name has been mentioned in connection with the men’s conference, a fictitious gathering of guys who don’t regard Valentine’s Day. He was a well-known farmer and politician who served as a Kanu chairman in Uasin Gishu under the administration of departed President Daniel Moi. Later, he split with Moi and joined ODM. Kibor was a wealthy farmer with over 4,000 acres of land and other assets, including real estate in numerous states.

He was known as a soldier or a prominent farmer-turned-politician, but he had made news for his polygamy, divorces, and nasty land conflicts with his sons. Who is Jackson Kibor, exactly? Kibor was orphaned after his parents died when he was barely five years old. He was born in Lelmokwo, Nandi county, to very poor parents. He dropped out of school in Class 5 in 1957 because he couldn’t afford to pay Sh1.50 each year to stay. He worked as a herdsman, a farmer, and a driver. Kibor was elected head of the Wareng county council in 1981, which included the current Uasin Gishu county. He became one of the wealthiest persons in the country during his three-year reign.
