Jackson Mandago clinches Uasin Gishu UDA Senate ticket

Gishu Uasin Governor Jackson Mandago received 75,847 votes in the UDA Senate seat nomination, while his major opponent, lawyer Kipchumba Karoli, received 55,854. Jonathan Bii, a politician, won the UDA governorship primary. He received 71,152 votes, compared to 59,001 for his closest rival, former envoy Julius Bitok. Vesca Kangogo came in third with 7,463 votes, while former envoy Sarah Serem received 19,112 votes.

Gladys Shollei, the incumbent, won the woman representative seat with 94,343 votes versus Rael Chebichi’s 54,961 votes. Following a remark made during the announcement of nomination results in Moiben Constituency, UDA was forced to send nominated senator Millicent Omanga to Eldoret. Two gangs linked to former MP Joseph Lagat and politician Phyllis Bartoo were locked in a day-long standoff.
Both claimed victory in Moiben’s UDA MP election, however several polling stations had problems calculating votes. For the better part of the day, area returning officer Aaron Chemonis was unable to announce results, requiring the party to send in Senator Omanga. Because of the impasse, the results for the governor and senate races in the county were delayed.
