Johnston Muthama clarifies his earlier remarks that termed ANC and Ford Kenya as ‘just friends’

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of Deputy President William Ruto has stated that it has no coalition arrangement with Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC or Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya, denying allegations of a power-sharing accord.

On Monday, UDA National Chairman Johnson Muthama stated that the political parties do not have a documented agreement and that they are currently operating on the basis of friendshipAddressing a press conference at his Red Office in Gigiri on Monday, the former Machakos senator told supporters to disregard media reports of a deal in the nascent Kenya Kwanza coalition.

.”As we are speaking now, you are being assured by none other than UDA chairman, there is no coalition agreement that has been arrived between the three coalition parties,” Muthama said.”We are friends who continue talking and engaging but when the time comes for then that issue will be dealt with at that time.”
Muthama was responding to rumors that a deal had been reached to zone several counties and enable only the African National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya to run candidates in particular areas. On Sunday, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) urged the public to disregard stories describing how the party expects to divide power if it forms the next government in August.
UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina said in a statement that the media should take the reports as mere speculation. She stressed that the collaboration between the UDA, the ANC, and Ford Kenya is solely for the purpose of bringing Kenyans together and propelling the country toward economic development, not for the purpose of sharing power.
