Heart specialists based at the premier Kenyatta National Hospital have made a breakthrough in heart surgery. They can now operate on someone without doing surgery and leaving that person with a scar. Competent heart surgeons can now successfully do non-invasive heart surgery. A procedure is known as PDA (patent ductus arteriosus). Skilled cardiologist access the heart through the leg where large vessels are easily accessible. They then use catheters “long tubes” that can get to the core. Once done, a patient can go home and continue with their everyday lives within 48 hours.
