Former President Mwai Kibaki will be laid to rest at his Othaya home on Saturday, April 30, according to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. Matiang’i said the State funeral service will be held on Friday at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, following the initial meeting of the National State Funeral Steering Committee. “We have finalised basic planning for His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki’s state funeral, and I would like to inform the public that it will take place on Friday, April 29th, 2022 at National Stadium,” he stated.
From Monday, his body will lay in state at the Parliament building for three days, allowing members of the public and leaders of the country to pay their respects. The condolence book will be available for signing in parliament on Monday afternoon, according to Matiang’i. “Those in Nairobi who wish to pay a visit to the family can do so at Kibaki’s Nyari Office on Tuesday and Wednesday. The details of the map will be sent to the office “he stated
“This is where members of the Diplomatic Corps or any senior members who may wish to visit the family to convey their condolences will go to the Nyari office on Tuesday and Wednesday… we are going to set up a facility at the Othaya CDF office in Nyeri for members of the public because it is centrally located in town and it will give members of the public and leaders from that part an opportunity to also visit and pay their respects,” she said.
The CS went on to say that on Sunday, the committee will make a complete statement and plan outlining all of the actions that will take place between now and the burial day
