Kirinyaga University student dies after falling from apartment in suspected love triangle

Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Kirinyaga University student who died Tuesday morning after falling from the third floor of an apartment in Juja.
Taylon Mbuthia, a second-year student, fell on the ground floor and died on the spot after a night out with his girlfriend and her other partner, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Mbuthia had visited his girlfriend Margaret Nyambura, a first-year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, on Sunday before his death (JKUAT).

But, as they climbed the flight of stairs, Andaki and the deceased got into a dispute after the former realized that the latter wasn’t Margaret’s cousin after all.
The two are thought to have argued at Margaret’s door before the deceased mysteriously landed on the ground floor.

Dan Guchu, the apartment’s caretaker, told authorities that a loud thump woke him up, and he hurried outside to see the deceased’s body splayed on the ground level.

He immediately notified DCI Juja investigators, who went to the spot and discovered the deceased’s body with several fractures and blood gushing from his lips and nose.
Since then, investigations into the death of the second-year Kirinyaga University student have begun.

Meanwhile, Margaret Nyambura, Brian Andaki and Joe Momanyi remain in custody as the main suspects, as experts from the Homicide branch join their Juja-based counterparts, to unravel the mystery.
