Maralal OCS who was injured by armed bandits dies in hospital.

On Christmas Day last year, a senior police officer was shot by robbers in Maralal while leading an operation to recover stolen animals. Johnson Musyoki, the Officer Commanding Police Station at Maralal in Samburu, died on Saturday in a Nairobi hospital while undergoing treatment.

“The injury on the pelvic seemed too severe,” said Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ngewa, who confirmed Musyoki’s death. When bandits opened fire on Musyoki and his colleagues during an operation in Maralal’s Pura, a police constable was killed on the scene.

After an unspecified procedure at Samburu County Referral Hospital, the Maralal OCS was admitted to Nairobi West Hospital for specialized treatment. In the space of a month, his killing brought the total number of security officers killed in Samburu to three. On January 3, another police officer was slain by suspected bandits at the Lerata Police Station.

Police in the area have paid a heavy price amid a surge in incidents of banditry mainly driven by cattle rustling.
