Matiang’i orders release of impounded boda boda

Before the end of the day, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has ordered the release of boda boda motorcycles impounded at police stations across the nation. Dr. Matiang’i asked the secretary for Internal Security to share the register of boda boda riders with all county, deputy county, and regional commissioners for the processing of the motorcycles’ release during a national convention for boda boda reforms held at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi. Dr. Matiangi’s security meetings are also expected of county and constituency chairpersons of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya (BAK) whenever he visits any county, he said.

‘Inform the commissioners that we want to collaborate with these individuals.’ When I arrive at a county security meeting from now on, I want to hear security reports from the Boda Boda chairpersons. “We’ll let them ask questions, and we’ll answer them,” the CS stated. The ruling comes after BAK President Kevin Mubadi stated that bodabodas were having difficulty accessing their motorcycles after they were seized in the recent mass raid.
Mr Mubadi stated that the riders were obliged to provide their national identity cards and logbooks at the police station in order to collect their motorcycles, but that even with the credentials, most were unsatisfied. The CS reaffirmed his commitment to reforming the bodaboda sector, claiming that it is too important to the economy to be overlooked. “Which government will play games with a population of 2.5 million people who give billions to the economy?” “I want to change the bodaboda sector in the same way that the late John Michuki did the matatu sector, and we are forming a lifelong covenant with you today,” he remarked to the 290 riders who represented riders from each of the country’s constituencies.
