President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho today officially opened the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital’s multi-million dollar cancer treatment center (CGTRH). After Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Nairobi, the new facility will be the country’s second cancer center.
When fully operational, it will be equipped with cutting-edge radiotherapy machines and will be able to treat up to 120 patients per week.Mutahi Kagwe, the Health Cabinet Secretary, toured the hospital last Friday in preparation for President Uhuru’s visit today. The Head of State, who is in Mombasa for a two-day official visit, indicated on Monday that the new centre at CGTRH will be officially opened today.
“Tomorrow, we will officially launch the cancer center at Coast General Hospital with Governor Joho (Mombasa).” Residents on the coast will now be able to receive cancer treatment on the spot, according to President Uhuru.The new facility, which was created in collaboration between the national and county governments, will provide both radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments. Infrastructure was given by the federal government, but land and human resources were distributed by the county government.
