Raila Odinga’s announcement that he will not be leaving politics anytime soon has shocked several opposition leaders. Some NASA MPs from Western Kenya were heard debating what the statement meant for their region at a major hotel on Monday night, a day after the opposition Chief announced it in Kawangware.
If their coalition head is serious about running again in 2022, the legislators agreed, his other principals will have to look for another political vehicle, or worse, compete. They said that by doing so, one of them would have a genuine chance of ascending to the mansion on the hill rather than waiting in line for another 15 years.
Raila also dismissed Ruto and allies as incapable of leadership. “When others are planning to distribute wheelbarrows, my government will be keen on addressing challenges in agriculture, education among other sectors, in efforts to transform the country,” Raila said.
