Asection of Lang’ata Road has been temporarily closed after a footbridge under construction collapsed early Saturday, February 12.
The footbridge is located near the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout.The cause of the structure’s collapse is unknown. Ongata Rongai, Karen, and Lang’ata estates residents heading to Nairobi’s central business sector were redirected along Bunyala Road.
Those traveling to the estates from the city center were directed to take South C as an alternative route. On Saturday afternoon, a crane and other equipment were deployed to try to remove a part of the fallen bridge from the road.Engineers and police officers were at the scene as of the time of publishing this story.
After a footbridge under construction collapsed on three cranes, forcing the closure of Langata Rd, a driver was hurt. Vehicles using the route have been rerouted, and other motorists have been advised to avoid it for the time being. When the footbridge collapsed on the cranes on the job site, it was being raised. As professionals remove the scene, traffic flow on nearby roadways is impacted. Nairobi’s traffic chief, Joshua Omukata, stated that they are working diligently to clear the situation.
