SUSPECTED SHABAAB militants torch equipment belonging to China Communications Construction Company in Lamu, County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirms.

County Commissioner Irungu Macharia admits that suspected Shabaab militants torch equipment belonging to China Communications Construction Company in Lamu. Following the re-emergence of what are considered to be retaliation attacks, tensions are now simmering in Lamu’s neighboring districts.

Kenyan commandos killed around 15 al-Shabaab militants in Lamu on Tuesday after a successful sting operation in the huge Boni forest in Lamu East.Irungu Macharia, Lamu County Commissioner, said the forces were drawn from the Amani Boni multi-agency squad, which was formed in 2015 with the goal of ambushing al-Shabaab terrorists believed to be hiding in the Boni forest.

No one was hurt in the incident on Sunday. The suspected Alshabaab militants were preparing attacks on the townspeople when they were interrupted by interested citizens who alerted the authorities. Instead, about 12 p.m., they set fire to equipment belonging to China Communications Construction Company in Lamu.
