She was born beautiful and innocent but ended it as a villain murderer, highly sought by the State and most feared by the public. She was born 34 years ago as Caroline Chemutai, the date of her birth being 10th January 1987 and her birthplace being Tambach Division in the present-day Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Caroline was the firstborn daughter of Mr. Barnaba Kipkoech Korir and Mrs. Leah Jepkosgei Kangogo of Nyawa Elgeiyo Marakwet. She began her education in 1994 at Nyawa Nursery School before progressing to Nyawa Boarding Primary school and later joined St Francis Secondary School where she schooled for only one year before joining St Alphonsus Mutei Girls’ school where she sat for her KCSE exams in the year 2006, managing to score a C-.
With the C-, Caroline was employed by Kenya Police on 15 August 2008. She was admitted to Kenya Police College in Kiganjo where she underwent her initial training before starting her official duties in 2009 at P.T.C Mombasa. She was later transferred to Kaloleni Police Station, K.P.C Kiganjo, and Central Police Station in Nakuru where she has been serving since 2015.
Caroline, who was on the run, after brutally killing two police officers on two separate incidences, was a jovial ever happy wife to a senior police officer known as Richard Kipkirui Ngeno, with whom they were blessed with two children, a boy, and a girl, aged 11 and 8 years respectively.
According to Nakuru Police Commander Beatrice Karaguri, Caroline was always friendly at work and exhibited no aggressive symptoms that can be linked to her recent killing spree which she began on either July 4th or 5th when she murdered her first victim, PC John Ogweno, a police officer who was also based at Nakuru. She then headed to Nairobi to kill another police officer known as PC Peter Ndegwa. The motive behind the killings has never been publicly shared.
Police officers in conjunction with other security teams in Kenya were busy hunting for her. She switched off her phone and was believed to be heavily armed and dangerous to the public.
Today, 16th July 2021, Caroline Kangogo was found dead inside her parent’s home in Nyawa, Elgeyo Marakwet. Rift Valley Regional Police Commissioner George Natembeya has said that Kangogo killed herself. Corporal Kangogo, according to Natembeya, shot herself in the head inside her mother’s bathroom.
“Amejiua asubuhi ya leo, alionekana asubuhi hivi, aliingia kwa zile bathroom za nje akajipiga risasi,” Commisioner Natembeya said.Police officers alerted to the matter rushed to her home where a gun believed to have been used in the murder of two men in Nakuru and Kiambu counties was recovered.
Caroline was seen today morning lonely getting into her parent’s home and was later discovered dead inside an opened bathroom. It is not clear whether she managed to speak to any of her family members before killing herself. A photo circulating on social media shows a woman believed to be Kangogo dressed in black pants, a mustard sweater, and a black veil covering her face seated on a pool of blood on the floor of what police have now confirmed is a bathroom. Her legs are crossed, and she has a pistol close to her left arm.
Detectives believed she had traversed at least six counties since committing the crimes, managing to stay on the loose with a contingent of security agents hotly in pursuit. Among the counties, she traversed include Kericho, Kisii, and Uasin Gishu, before she finally decided to complete her journey in her birthplace in Elgeiyo Marakwet County.
