UEFA have confirmed that Turkey, Russia and the UK/Republic of Ireland have declared interest in hosting UEFA Euro 2028.

UEFA announced on Wednesday that Britain and Ireland, Russia, and Turkey have expressed interest in hosting the European Championship in 2028. UEFA also confirmed that Russia and Turkey have expressed interest in hosting Euro 2032, as well as Italy’s desire to bid for the tournament. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA have banned Russian clubs and national teams from international competition, pending an appeal by the Russian Football Union (RFU) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The RFU has not been suspended, but UEFA has stated that it would keep a close eye on the situation. “The UEFA Executive Committee will remain on standby to convene additional extraordinary meetings, on a regular ongoing basis, as required, in addition to its already-scheduled meetings of 7 April and 10 May, to reassess the legal and factual situation as it evolves and adopt further decisions as necessary, including in light of the Russian Football Union’s declaration of interest in hosting the UEFA EURO,” a UEFA spokesperson said.

In 2018, Russia hosted the World Cup. Last week, President Vladimir Putin held a rally at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, which hosted the final. “We should make use of the chance to host the Euro. It would take place in one of our World Cup venues. Infrastructure has been built “Match TV quoted RFU president Alexander Dyukov as stating. “We recognize that there is a slim opportunity (to host), but we must take advantage of it. We reserve the right to make a bid; this is a completely free option.” There must be 10 stadiums available, one with a capacity of at least 60,000 seats and two with a capacity of at least 50,000 seats.
