Syokimau on the Brink: Residents Slam KURA Over Crumbling Roads, Two-Hour Traffic Jams and Failed Repairs as Rains Loom

The rains are coming, but Syokimau residents already endure unbearable traffic due to neglected roads and heavy commercial trucks on Syokimau-Katani Road.

Residents spend up to two hours reaching the main road. Missing bus stops, potholes, dust, clogged drainages, poor lighting and absent footpaths worsen daily suffering. Uber and Bolt rides also cost more.

Despite paying high land rates in Machakos, residents endure deplorable conditions. Some are relocating to Nairobi, while others burdened by mortgages demand accountability.

KURA Machakos, under Engineer Limo, faces criticism over patchwork repairs reportedly lasting less than three months, raising concerns about taxpayer-funded work quality.

Residents urge President William Ruto’s government, KURA and the Police IG to repair Syokimau-Katani Road and connecting roads and control heavy trucks.
