Omollo Challenges ODM’s 50-50 Power-Sharing Demand Ahead of 2027 Elections
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has challenged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership over its demand for an equal share of government positions in a proposed political alliance with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Omollo questioned the need for a formal power-sharing agreement, arguing that political cooperation should be built on trust rather than conditions and signed deals. His remarks come as ODM national chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga insists that the party deserves half of the next government, including the Deputy President’s position.
The disagreement highlights growing tensions within the broad-based political arrangement between ODM and Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). While ODM leaders want firm guarantees to protect their political interests, Omollo maintains that support for the President should not depend on pre-election agreements.
As negotiations continue, the two camps face the challenge of balancing political ambitions, electoral strength and mutual trust. Their ability to reach a compromise could significantly shape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
